Elvera Detert

Elvera E. Detert, 89, of Merrill, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022. She lived a full life, believed in Jesus as her Lord and Savior and passed away peacefully from this world, surrounded by her family, in her home, as she wished. Elvera was born on January 17, 1933, in the Town of Pine River, daughter of the late Paul and Elsie (Jaeger) Kufahl. She was raised on her parent’s farm and was confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church on March 30, 1947. Elvera married Bernhard Detert Jr. on February 19, 1955 in the Town of Pine River. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1999. Elvera is survived by her children, Thomas (Terri) Detert of Sonora, California, Cindy (Francis) Stieber of Mosinee, David R. (Terri) Detert of Gleason, Randal (Jane) Detert of Merrill, and Russell Detert of Merrill; daughter-in-law, Shelley Detert of Hamburg; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Marilyn ‘Mert’ Kufahl. Elvera was preceded in death by her husband, Bernhard Detert Jr.; parents, Paul and Elsie Kufahl; son, Alan Detert; and siblings, Vernon Kufahl, Melvin Kufahl, Kenneth Kufahl, Lorraine Kraft, and MilnoKufahl.

In this life, Elvera was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, serving in various ways. She enjoyed fishing on warm summer days. Planning and planting flower beds and potted arrangements filled her spring and summer seasons. As days grew cold, she brought many inside to be enjoyed throughout the winter. Elvera’s bird feeders, strategically placed outside her large picture window were always full of both feathered and furry visitors! Her home was always open to company, any opportunity to be with her family was important to her. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially delightful times.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2022, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Patricia Schutz will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill is assisting the family.
