Skoviera is named September Youth Optimist of the Month

The Merrill Noon Optimist Club selected Amelia Skoviera as the September Youth of the Month. Amelia was nominated by Ms. Morgan Wilde, who wrote: “Amelia is my student in Anatomy and Physiology, also a member of the tennis team that I coach. Amelia is Captain of the Girls Tennis Team, for very good reason. Her positive attitude and outlook on life are the perfect example for players that are younger. Tennis is a mentally tough sport. There are no loud crowds to cheer you on as you play; it all falls on the players to encourage themselves. Amelia’s positive self-talk and her positive encouragement with her doubles partner never stops during a tennis match. Something positive is said before AND after every point. An attitude like Amelia’s is something that is envied in the tennis community. Amelia and her doubles partner have even become well known throughout the Wisconsin Valley Conference for their positive self-talk and encouragement for each other. In fact, it is a rare occasion if the coach of the opposing team does NOT compliment Amelia and her partner on their positive attitudes.”

Ms. Wilde also stated: “Being optimistic does not always come easy for Amelia. It’s something that takes effort at times. What makes her stand out is her ability to overcome negativity by putting in the concerted effort and choosing to still have a positive attitude. Having a positive outlook is a choice, and Amelia chooses to be positive every day, no matter how hard it may be. An optimistic attitude like Amelia’s is hard to come by. It is incredibly consistent from the tennis courts to the science classroom; since it is consistent between those two, I can only imagine how much positivity she is able to spread with the other handful of school organizations she is deeply involved in.”

Amelia has been active in Varsity Tennis (MVP and 1st Team All-Conference), Soccer, and as a Link Crew Leader, LEAD member, Youth Optimist (member & Secretary), National Honors Society (member & President), Bluejay Beat writer, and member of Raise Your Voice, The Nest, Student Council and as Student Representative for the Board of Education.

Outside of school, Amelia is a 4K Soccer Coach and Sunday School Teacher.

After high school graduation, Amelia is planning to attend UW Eau Claire to get her degree in Elementary Education. She is the daughter of Aaron and Colleen Skoviera.
