Edward ‘Ed’ E. Leavitt

Edward ‘Ed’ E. Leavitt, age 84, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the Marshfield Hospital in Weston. Ed was born on February 1, 1937, to the late LeRoy and Alice (Plautz) Leavitt in Merrill, WI.  He enlisted and served in the United States Army, where he enjoyed visiting the European countries. Ed then met the love of his life, Carol Plautz, and the two lovingly exchanged marriage vows on September 9, 1961, in Merrill, a union lasting over 60 years. She survives.  Ed worked in construction as a laborer for most of his adult life and was the President of the local 1359 Laborers Union for 25 years. He was very good at fixing things and very creative when it came to making things work. He looked forward to going camping, fishing, deer and bird hunting; he was an outdoorsman that loved and appreciated being outdoors. Ed meticulously worked in his yard and canning vegetables. He is remembered as a very patient man that was always calm and mild mannered. Ed was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He will be missed but kept in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

Ed leaves behind his loving wife: Carol Leavitt, sons: Brian (Vicky) and Brent (Carolyn), grandchildren: Kayla (Trevor), Amber and Reno (Mace), great granddaughter: Nora, sister: Karen Van Slate and brother & best friend: Lester (Carol) Leavitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Derek Leavitt, brothers: Harold and Tom Leavitt and sisters: Nancy Travis and Lucile Haw.

The funeral service for Ed will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 11am at Waid Funeral Home.  The Rev. Mike Southcombe will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, from 9am until the time of the service, also at the funeral home. Burial at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery will immediately follow the service.  In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations in Ed’s name be directed to the Lincoln County Humane Society.  Ed’s family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at the Marshfield Hospital in Weston for their care and compassion shown to them and Ed in his last days.  Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.
