Merrill Area Public Schools (MAPS) received notification that Washington Elementary School is ranked in the top 30% of all elementary schools in Wisconsin by U.S. News and World Report. The ranking of #262 out of 1,030 elementary schools were determined by student proficiency levels in both Reading and Math on the State’s Forward Assessment from the 2018-19 school year.

“I am extremely proud of our students and staff and consider this a great accomplishment. The past few years we took a close look at our schoolwide data and identified our gaps in student achievement. We implemented high leverage teaching strategies coupled with authentic learning opportunities which produced positive results in ELA and Math,” said Principal Trisha Detert.

“Recognition for hard work, and more importantly, the right work is always appreciated,” stated Dr. John Sample, MAPS Superintendent. “The entire Washington staff, our students, and their parents can be very proud of this accomplishment.”
