Schultz is named Athlete of the Week

Grace Schultz, a Senior at Merrill High School (MHS) has been named Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 21. Grace said she, like her twin, started taking swim lessons as a baby and then began competing at age eight. She joined the Merrill Bluejay Girls Swim Team as a Freshman and currently swims the 100 Yard Backstroke and the 200 Yard Individual Medley, as well as other events as her Coach rotates events. A year-round swimmer, Grace is a lifeguard at the Weston Aquatic Center in the summer and also at the Weston YMCA the rest of the year. She also competes November to August as a member of the Weston YMCA Northern Swimmers (WYNS).

At MHS, Grace is a member of the National Honor Society, Junior Optimists, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She grew up playing the piano and still plays occasionally, In her free time, she enjoys baking, camping, hiking, swimming beyond just in the pool, she said, and hanging out with friends going out to eat and going to Rib Mountain. She attends Highland Community Church and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

The daughter of Lowie Schultz of Merrill, Grace has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study business at a four-year university, possibly marketing, while also continuing to swim competitively.
