WISCONSIN – A bill, introduced as part of Legislative Republicans’ “Sporting Freedom” bill package and sponsored by State Representative Calvin Callahan (R-Tomahawk), would require the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to eliminate three rules related to hunting, fishing or trapping for each new rule it implements related to those activities.

State Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Saukville) also sponsored the bill, which contains one sentence of text.

According to analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau included with the legislation, state law “requires DNR to promulgate rules to establish and maintain open and closed seasons for fish and game and to establish any bag limits, size limits, rest days, and other conditions governing the taking of fish and game that will conserve the fish and game supply and ensure continued opportunities for fishing, hunting, and trapping.”
