Schultz is named Athlete of the Week

Claire Schultz, a Senior at Merrill High School (MHS), has been named Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 16. Claire said she started taking swim lessons when she was less than a year old and began swimming competitively at the age of eight. She has been a member of the Merrill Bluejays Girls Swim Team since she was a Freshman and currently swims the 200 Yard Freestyle, 50 Yard Freestyle, and is a part of the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay and 200 Yard Medley Relay teams. Claire said she is a year-round swimmer, and she also teaches private swim lessons and works at a lifeguard at the Weston YMCA where she swims competitively November to August as a part of the Weston YMCA Northern Swimmers (WYNS).
At MHS, Claire is involved in FFA, Tri-M, Marching Band, and Wind Ensemble Band. She plays percussion and plays the bass drum in Marching Band.
Claire attends Highland Community Church and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. When she’s not at school or in the water, she loves being outdoors hiking, sledding, snowboarding, and hanging out with friends.
Claire is the daughter of Lowie Schultz of Merrill. She has a 3.9 GPA and plans to attend college where she plans to study science, most likely biology she said. She plans to continue swimming competitively in college.
