Lauren Cohrs, a Junior at Merrill High School (MHS), has been named Athlete of the Week of Sept. 2. Lauren is on the Merrill Girls Tennis team. She began as a Freshman and made Varsity as a Sophomore playing doubles, but this year will be playing singles. “She did a great job playing varsity #2 doubles last year,” Coach Brad Barton said, [but] “since our doubles teams are a little stronger than our singles this year, Lauren has graciously accepted the role of singles.” This is one example of how Lauren puts her team before herself, Coach said.
At school, Lauren is in Link Crew, the National Honors Society, The Nest, The Merrill Theater Jays (the MHS musical) Choir, Vocal Jays, Junior Optimists, and Tri-M [a music honor society service group]. She works part-time at The Grand Stand and volunteers at her church [St. Francis] and at St. Vincent dePaul. In her free time, she likes to read and hang out with friends.
The daughter of Kevin and Tammy Cohrs of Merrill, Lauren has a 4.0 GPA and hopes to attend UW-Madison after high school, but is not yet certain of her major or future career goals.
