The Annual Merrill Lion’s Rubber Duck Race was held on the Prairie River in Stanges Park on Aug. 5. In the weeks leading up to the race, the Lion’s Club sold raffle tickets for chances to race little yellow rubber ducks and earn a big cash prize. $5 bought one numbered ticket to race the duck of the corresponding ticket number, and $20 bought six chances for six lucky ducks with the corresponding ticket numbers.
Once the rubber ducks were all dumped from the Third Street Bridge, they floated their way down the river where they were funneled into a winner’s lane.
The first duck to cross the finish line earned $800 for the lucky ticket holder; the second duck brought in a $300 prize, and the third place duck ticket holder got $200. Five additional ducks were drawn at random, and the ticket holders won $25 each.
