John Carter (Now streaming on many platforms)
Rated PG-13 – For action peril.
My friends, once again I am giving you a film that may have slipped past you because of an updated deadline due to the holiday and the fact that my beautiful wife was called out of town, and I was forbidden from seeing the new Marvel film, Shang-Chi: legend of the Ten Rings without her. But ya know what? That’s cool by me, because John Carter is a film that deserved a better fate than what it received.
Released in 2012 by Disney and accompanied by what can only be described as the worst marketing campaign I have ever seen, and I would know, because marketing is what I do, John Carter flopped like a fish out of water during its all-too-brief theatrical run.
Starring Taylor Kitsch (Battleship) as the title character, the film follows the adventures of Captain Carter, a Civil war vet, as he finds himself, much to his surprise, on Mars.
Also starring Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins Wolverine) and Willem Defoe (Spiderman), John Carter is a good old-fashioned adventure with action, intrigue, and just a dash of good humor.
This is one for the family. You can sit and watch this with the kids, who will get a kick out of Captain Carter’s exploits and misnaming (watch and you will understand).
Released by Disney and disappearing faster than you can say “Poof!” John Carter is worth seeking out if you are looking for a fun film. I give it two out of five stars, because it screams for you to grab the popcorn, dim the lights, and enjoy a great action adventure.
Available on multiple streaming services for your enjoyment.
