Vacation Friends (Streaming on Hulu)
Rated a Hard R – For language, pervasive drug use, and adult themes.
Every once in a while, a film comes along that speaks to social issues and raises our consciousness and makes us rethink our place in this world.
Vacation Friends is not that film. This film is a rip-roaring laugh-out-loud comedy with no message at all. Well, maybe a small one, and that being that we all have that one friend. You know the one. Before you introduce them to others, you take them aside and say, “Be cool,” and they never are, but we love them anyway or in spite of this fact.
Marcus (Lil Rel Howey from Free Guy) is a massively uptight control freak. He and his girlfriend, Emily (Yvonne Orji from Night School), are heading out on vacation. After a minor reservation disaster at their hotel, they end up sharing a suite with Ron (Jon Cena, Suicide Squad) and his girlfriend, Kyla (Meredith Hagner from Bob’s Burgers), and from there, Marcus’s world goes wonky.
After a wild vacation, Marcus and Emily head home, leaving their wild and crazy vacation friends behind, or so they thought.
Seven months later, Marcus and Emily are getting married, and Emily’s father hates Marcus. Then the unthinkable happens. Ron and Kyla show up and crash the wedding party with predictable results.
Folks, this film is funny. It’s raunchy. It is filled with massively inappropriate jokes and situations and, in case I have not been clear, it is NOT for the kiddies.
I laughed hard at this movie. Very hard. Everyone in this film fills their roles perfectly, and this is a movie that is worth searching out if you are looking for a hearty laugh or three. And that’s why I give it three out of five stars.
Vacation Friends is now streaming on Hulu for an evening of comedic relief for the grown-ups who just need a really good laugh.
