Shirley ‘Shirlee’ J. Gathercoal, age 94, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, at Woodland Court Elder Services in Merrill.  She was born on April 10, 1927, to the late Edward and Blanche (Jordan) Larson in Kansas City, Missouri.  Shirlee attended and graduated with honors from high school.

Shirlee worked as a transcriber at a large insurance firm in Chicago, IL for over 20 years, until her retirement.  She spent most of her adult life in Chicago, IL.  Family was a priority in Shirlee’s life, and she would look forward to family gatherings and holiday get-togethers.  She is remembered as a classy lady that was always a very snappy dresser!  Shirlee was a strong, independent woman that also had a great sense of humor.  Donating to the Lincoln County Humane Society was very important to her, as she loved her pets, especially her cats.  Shirlee will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Shirlee is survived by her daughter, Vickie Vonseggern of Merrill; sister-in-law, Carl Larson and many extended family members.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan Gathercoal; son-in-law, Peter Vonseggern; sisters, Juanita Dahlman and Nancy Overman; and brother, Charles Larson.

Donations to the Lincoln County Humane Society in Shirlee’s name are encouraged.

A Celebration of Life for Shirlee will take place at a later date.
