Dennis Rothmeyer, 73, of Merrill, Wisconsin passed away on August 21, 2021, in Wausau, Wisconsin. He was born on July 9, 1948, in Wausau, WI to Derold and Delores (Kolter) Rothmeyer. Dennis married Paulette (Grefe) Rothmeyer on July 25, 1970, in Merrill. She passed away on January 26, 2020. Dennis was the first employee hired at GPI back in 1967 and worked there until his retirement over 40 years later. He loved spending time with his family at the cottage in Tomahawk, where he hunted since he was young. He was a Christmas cookie master, always achieving the perfect cutouts no matter how long it would take. His lasagna was a dish he took great pride in as well. Paulette and Dennis enjoyed taking trips to the casinos throughout Wisconsin. He was a funny, sweet, down to earth big old’ teddy bear. Dennis would do anything for anybody. He was silly, always joking around and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life like taking a drive every evening with his dog, Sasha.
Dennis is survived by his daughters; Danielle (Tim) and Melissa (Brian), grandchildren; Riley (Hope) and Madelyn (Max), great-grandchild, Beau, siblings; Sandy (Vern), Rhonda (George), Sherry (Clint), and Kevin (Jessica), sisters and brothers-in-law and his dog, Sasha. He is preceded in death by his mother, Delores, father, Derold, his wife, Paulette, and his son, Tony.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Waid Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Southcombe will officiate. A visitation will take place on Thursday, September 2, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Waid Funeral Home and again on Friday at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Inurnment to take place at a later date at Merrill Memorial Park. Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.
