On Saturday, June 5, 38 of the 40 Merrill Bluejay shooters registered to participate in the Wausau Skeet and Trap Great Northern Conference Shoot were at the Wausau Skeet and Trap Club on WW in Wausau to shoot it out. The Great Northern Conference Shoot is a part of the Youth Shooting Program for the Scholastic Clays Target Program and Conference Champion Shoot. Focused on Safety and Fun, the Scholastic Clay Target Program helps youth develop more than just shooting skills; it’s primary focus is to teach positive life skills such as sportsmanship, responsibility, and teamwork, as well.
Merrill Bluejays were competing against nearly 300 students from a total of 10 schools in the Conference Shoot. The Conference Shoot is open to all sanctioned shooters in the Conference who wish to register.
Despite 93 degree sweltering weather, the Merrill shooters stayed hydrated and their aim was true.
The Merrill Bluejay Varsity and Junior Varsity Teams both took first place. For Varsity, shooters Brindelyn Eternicka, Jase Glaze, Jordan Smukowski, Louis Blum, and Camryn Schulz took the team to the top with a score of 415. The Junior Varsity Bluejays actually topped that with a score of 419 to take first place in the JV division. Hollis Eternicka, Robert Hoff, Nicholas Kriegel, Landon Hipke, and Lydia Ashbrenner made it happen.
JV shooter, Hollis Eternicka, took first place in the JV Division with an individual score of 90 out of 100 points, and he took third place overall out of all the shooters competing on Saturday, just 2 points less than the number one shooter who had a score of 92.
Varsity shooter, Brindelyn Eternicka, was in fourth place in the Varsity Division with an individual score of 87 out of 100 points.
