The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard (Now showing in theatres)
Rated R – For language, violence, and bloodshed.
Ok, so those of you that know me are aware of this fact, but for everyone else, you should know that I am a native New Yorker. One thing we New Yorkers are known for, amongst other things, is our prolific use of swear words. That being said, I was taken aback at the amount of and level of swear words in this movie, both used on their own and in entire sentences compiled of nothing but four-letter words. It was amazing.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is vulgar, violent, and funny. From go, it has you laughing and blushing at the same time.
The sequel to the surprise 2017 Hit, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, finds Ryan Reynolds (The Nines*) back with Samuel L. Jackson (from anything that provides a paycheck) and Selma Hayek (Grown Ups), back again shooting and cussing their way through Europe, this time blackmailed into thwarting a megalomaniacal billionaire (is there really any other kind?) and his evil schemes.
Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption) shows up for a while, as does Antonio Bandaras (Desperado), and all seem to be having a blast with this movie.
There is no social commentary, there is no politically correct story line, and there is no sudden awareness of social issues. What there is in this movie are deaths, shootouts, award winning use of vulgarity (seriously I was truly impressed), and a whole country ton of fun and laughter.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is a fun way to kill a brisk 1 Hour and 39 minutes while you chomp down some popcorn. Just a ton of fun.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard gets three solid stars out of five, because it’s just so much fun.
*Note: If you have not had the chance to view The Nines starring Ryan Reynolds, seek it out, but be warned: It’s a thinking movie, but those that get it will love it.
