At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Monday, May 31, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call from a motorist who reported an overturned semi on Hwy. 64 at Hwy. X. While no injuries were reported, the driver was trapped inside.
The driver reported swerving to avoid hitting a deer before losing control. The semi tractor and trailer both tipped and landed on their side.
Both lanes of Wis. Highway 64 were closed, and traffic was detoured along a route using Spring Brook Ave. and County X for the rest of the night. The driver was extricated from the semi at approximately 11:17 p.m.
The trailer, loaded down with 42,000 pounds of butter, had to be emptied before the 2019 Western Star W4900EX tractor and white 2001 Utility Trailer could be tipped back upright. Rod’s Towing assisted and took the tractor/trailer to impound due to damage. The equipment is owned by S&S Trucking LLC of Waupun, and the driver, a 38-year-old Deerbrook man, who luckily escaped injury, was not cited.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and the Pine River Fire Department both responded, and the Lincoln County Highway Department assisted with barricades to help redirect traffic.
The scene was cleared and the highway reopened to traffic at 6:13 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1.
