Merrill Track & Field is off to a running start

The Merrill Bluejays Varsity Track & Field Team is off to a running start and excited for the season. The team kicked things off on April 29 with a meet at Wausau East where both the guys and the girls brought home some first and second place finishes.
For the girls, top performances include first place finishes for Faith Seliger in the high jump (5’2”), Madison Crossman in the triple jump (31’ 8”), Brindelyn Eternicka in the discus (95’ 1”), Liz Schmidt in the 1600 meter run (5:12), Liz Schmidt in the 800 meter run (2:20), and Madison Crossman in the 400 meter run (1:06). Second place finishers for the girls include Olivia Troyer in the long jump (13’ 1”) and Brindelyn Eternicka in the shot put (29’ 8.75”).

For the guys, top performances include Carter Jensen who took first place in the 110 hurdles (17.2 seconds) and the following boys who also grabbed a second place finish: Carter Jensen in the 300 hurdles (44.7 seconds), Ashton Voermans in the pole vault (9’ 0”), AJ Vogel in the 110 hurdles (20.7 seconds), Levi Black in the 400 meter run (1:00), and Kyle Stellingworth in the 800 meter run (2:21).
“It felt almost surreal to be back out on the track for a meet after a two-year hiatus,” Coach Jason Wadzinski said. “We have a very young and excited group of athletes here in Merrill. They work hard and are going to grow by leaps and bounds this year.”
