Alex J.  Holzem

Alex J.  Holzem, 89, passed away, Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Benedictine Living Community-Wausau, Wisconsin, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice services.  He was born July 16, 1931, in Wausau, to the late Christian and Amelia Holzem.  He married the late Barbara (Sowinski) Holzem, on July 2, 1952, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Wausau, WI.  Alex and Barb raised 10 children and he loved hunting and fishing.

Survivors include, three daughters, Georgia Wenzel, Hamburg, WI, Bonnie (Ted) Brockmann, Cleveland, WI, Nancy (Ted) Kerr, San Antonio, TX,, five sons, Mike (Lorraine) Holzem, Cleveland, WI, Larry (Ann) Holzem, Wausau, WI, Joe Holzem (Julie White), Wausau, WI, Kenny (Linda) Holzem, Tomahawk, WI, Kevin (Jane) Holzem, Virginia Beach, VA, daugher-In-Law, Kaylene (Bill Baetz), Sheyboygan, WI, two brother-in-laws, Roger Sefton, Mercedes, TX, and Jerry Rader, Schofield, WI, five siblings, Anna Mae Babicky, Weston, WI, Marvin Holzem, Wisconsin Dells, WI, Cecilia Gwidt, Schofield, WI, Christine Sefton, Mercedes, TX, and Sandra Dorshak, Rothchild, WI.  He is survived by 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Holzem, son, Gary Holzem, daughter, Kelly Holzem,  parents, Christian and Amelia Holzem, sisters, Kathleen A. Pierce, Marcella Berndt, Arlene Loss, brothers, Gregory Holzem, Donald Holzem, Charles Holzem, son-in-law, Michael Steinberg, sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Radar,  Mary Jane Holzem, Phyllis Holzem, Marge Holzem, Doris Holzem, brother-in-laws, Charles Pierce, Eugene VanVreede, Arthur Berndt, James Babicky, Robert Gwidt, Jerome Loss, and Chester Dorshak.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, April 30th, 2021 at 3pm at Waid Funeral Home.  Father Jayanna Kanna will officiate.  Visitation will begin at 1pm and continue until the time of the liturgy, also at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Waid Funeral Home at 301 Eagle Dr., Merrill, WI, 54452 to assist the family with funeral expenses.  Masks and social distancing will be required at the funeral home.
