Jered James Severt

Jered James Severt was born October 22, 1974, to Jim and Denise (Rogers) Severt.  Jered grew up on the family farm.  He was his dad’s “right-hand man” throughout his teenage years, establishing his strong work ethic.  He made many life-long friends in the Barnes Creek Buccaneers 4-H Club. He is a 1993 graduate of Merrill Senior High School.  He was known for being generous, kind and sincere.  He loved the Green Bay Packers, playing Fantasy Football and going geocaching.  His passion for living was evident and he gave the best hugs.  He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from UW-Stevens Point and later earned his Masters Degree. He taught in California, northwest Wisconsin, Colorado, and most recently, back in his hometown of Merrill. He taught middle school math and started several chess clubs.  He was a whiz at solving the Rubik’s Cube, passing this skill on to many of his students.  The positive impact he had on his colleagues and those he taught will not be forgotten.  Jered was involved in the sport of wrestling from the time he was a child, most recently as an Assistant Coach at Merrill High School. He was an outstanding wrestler earning 4th place at State as a senior.  He loved the sport and coached it in each school where he taught.  He was an avid deer hunter and loved the outdoors. He preferred country life with access to woods, water, and wildlife. He loved being part of Grampa’s Farm.  He continued fulfilling his father’s dream and added so much to an already great family event.  Above all, he loved his sons, Ashton and Lincoln. He took great pride in being their dad. Attending their events and talking with them often was important to him. He treasured their visits to Merrill. He was so proud of their achievements.  They went on many great trips together—recently, California, where they explored from San Francisco to Los Angeles, making many memories along the way.  Jered was a devoted son, always letting his mother know how much he loved her. After his dad’s passing, Jered moved home to be there for his mom.  He delighted in his sister’s families. He was a fun uncle organizing a game, a scavenger hunt, contest or activity.  Known to many as “Kermit”, he was a kindhearted, caring, and loyal friend. He will be remembered for his quick wit and joking personality. Jered was always up for a crazy adventure and lived life to the fullest. He was also incredibly selfless and happy to lend a helping hand.

Jered is survived by his sons, Ashton and Lincoln, LaSalle, CO; his mother, Denise Severt, Merrill; sisters Jamie (Jim) Johnson, Oshkosh, WI and Tricia (Alex) Crockford, Merrill; nieces and nephews, Grace and Sam, Oshkosh, WI; Sarah, Leah, James, Bethany and Aaron, Merrill; his maternal grandfather, Everett Rogers; his best friend, Connie Cimino; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
