Sixty-nine-year-old Cynthia K. Diesen of Weston died Friday, Apr. 2, as the result of an ATV accident in the Township of Schley. At approximately 5:24 p.m., the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a call to the end of Holdorf Rd. for a report of a female party that had gone missing earlier in the day and was located deceased, a media release said. In addition to Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Town of Russell First Responders and City of Merrill EMS also responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was operating an ATV and “was attempting to turn around, but accelerated forward quickly, traveled off the embankment, and into the Prairie River.” A neighbor located the woman a short distance downstream, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
She was not wearing a helmet, there were no passengers on the ATV at the time of the crash, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, the report said. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
