Merrill’s Traveling 6th Grade Boys Basketball Team finished their season by taking first place in the two tournaments they participated in, according to Coach Bob Ott. Tournaments were held on Feb. 6 in Stratford and on Feb. 27 in Stevens Point. Team coaches this year also included Scott Olson and Ryan Rudie. “It was hard on all the teams, as gym time didn’t open up until the end of January,” Coach Ott said. “Our first two practices where held at my work warehouse that didn’t even have a basket. After the first practice, I didn’t think they would all show up again, and they did – with no basket. This group of boys where committed to getting better.” That’s an “overcoming obstacles” story for sure.
