DeJong is named Youth Optimist for January

Caleb DeJong was selected as January Youth Optimist of the Month. Caleb was nominated by Mr. Rob Klug, who wrote: “Caleb is a leader. His work is outstanding. I would want all of my football players to work as diligently as he does. Caleb’s senior football season, unfortunately, came to an end the first game of the season. It was hard to see someone who had worked so hard have their season taken away due to injury. However, this did not deter Caleb; he was present at nearly every practice for the rest of the season, helping his teammates prepare.”
“Caleb is a wonderful, polite young man.” Mr. Klug added. “He is a pleasure to be around in school and on the athletic fields.”
Caleb is active in LEAD, Link Crew, Earth Club, National Honor Society (treasurer and inductee), Math league, basketball, baseball, and football (2nd team All Conference Running Back for Great Northern Conference and Athlete of the Week).
Outside of school, Caleb is involved in Boy Scout Troop 599 (Troop Guide, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Patrol Leader), Make A Difference Day, Highway Clean-Up, Eagle Scout projects, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (youth Ambassador).
After graduation, Caleb plans to attend Knox College to play football and become a physical therapist or athletic trainer. He is the son of Jessica and Jared DeJong.
