Benedict spells her way to the state bee

St. John Lutheran School 7th grader, Keeley Benedict, placed in the top six of the Cooperative Educational Services Agency (CESA) 9 area Regional Spelling Bee, and will now go to the Badger State Spelling Bee to be held at the end of March. She was the only Merrill student who placed in the top six and is heading to the state bee to represent St. John’s and the Merrill community.
St. John’s 8th grader, Janna Jacobson, also competed in the Regional Spelling Bee last week.
The girls were challenged with spelling words like: anticoagulant and harumph.
The contest also included an online vocabulary component. During this portion of the contest, they also had to identify the meanings of words like: slumgullion and mawkish.
