John H. Fechner

On Saturday, February 6, 2021, John H. Fechner, loving husband and father of three children, passed away in his home in Merrill, WI at age 79.  John was born on April 17, 1941 in Merrill to Elmer (E.J.) Fechner and Margaret (Kraft) Fechner. On June 12, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Marie Sherfinski. They raised three children: John, Jill and Julie.  ~In 1959, John joined in the United States Army, and then Army Reserve until 1966 with an honorable discharge. While stationed in West Germany, he and Janet explored Europe while they lived in Stuttgart. After receiving a degree in welding from NTC, John worked at Wausau Iron Works, WCA and in his later years drove truck. John loved to read Westerns and mysteries, watch sports—especially football, spend time with dogs, and feed the birds and squirrels. One of his favorite things to do was to jump in the car with Janet and explore the back roads, not knowing where they would end up.

John was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and his brother Jim. He is survived by Janet, the love of his life for over 60 years, his sister Marge Rankin, his brother William (Miyako) Fechner, his sister-in-laws Jeanette Fechner and Pat (Keith) Wendt, his brother-in-law David (Sandy) Sherfinski, his children John (Marti) Fechner, Jill (Mike) Braunel and Julie (Tom) Wamser, his grandchildren Elizabeth (Mike) Krueger, Tom (Desiree) Braunel, and Ethan, Hope & Julia Fechner, and his great-grandchildren James, Jenna, Kayleigh and Justin, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A service is being planned for the summer of 2021. Condolences can be made at either to [email protected] or https://www.honorone.com

John will be dearly missed by his family.
