Murray is named Youth Optimist for December

Erin Murray was selected as Youth Optimist of the Month for December. Erin was nominated by Mr. Joshua Wilson, who states, “Erin always possesses a positive attitude and demeanor. I’ve had the opportunity to teach Erin in several classes and I have always appreciated her positive interactions with her classmates. Erin is a talented student and has had a lot of success academically. In working with Erin, she’s been an outstanding young person; she is encouraging and positive. Through the uncertainty of attending high school in the age of COVID, Erin has maintained her dedication to her studies and to her athletic endeavors as a member of the MHS tennis team. Despite beginning her senior year in such an unusual time, Erin has maintained an enthusiastic spirit that is of great benefit, as students and faculty members alike do our best to navigate this time.” Mr. Wilson also comments, “Last year was my first at Merrill after several years outside of the state. I was nervous to begin at MHS. I had Erin in a class that year when she was a Junior, and I quickly learned that she was an outstanding young person and she was representative of the good kids we have at Merrill.”
School related activities that Erin participates in include girls basketball (Sr. Varsity Captain), girls tennis (All Conference Honorable Mention), Link Crew (Leader), FFA, DECA, National Honor Society, LEAD, and Earth Club. She was on the honor roll her entire high school career and has received the AP Scholar Award.
Outside of school, Erin is active with Junior Optimist Club, Make A Difference Day, making blankets for Good Samaritan, and Highway Cleanup.
Erin plans to attend UW-Madison in the fall semester of 2021 to major in Psychology on a Pre-Law track. She is the daughter of Linda and Shannon Murray.
