The Merrill Girls Varsity Basketball players made some great moves on the court against Marshfield on Tuesday, Jan. 12., and came away with a win.
Ladies Jays Sophomore #4 Alayna Pozorski was on fire the entire first half of the game. She was all over the court – scoring, rebounding, and making her presence known according to one spectator.
“We finally put a complete game together where both our offense and defense were clicking on all cylinders,” Coach Adam Smith said. “With both Crystal and Erin unable to play, we needed other players to step up. Multiple people answered the call, with Alayna dropping 13, and having 3 offensive rebounds in one trip down the floor.”
“Nicole and Claire both added 12 to Courtney’s 29. It was nice to see Courtney get back to putting up the numbers we all know she is capable of,” Coach Smith added. “She is a really fun player to watch when she has things clicking from both inside and out as she showed us on Tuesday night.”
#11 Courtney Krueger (9 FG, 2 3pt, 9 FT, 5 ast, 3 stl) was the high Bluejay scorer in the game against the Tigers, scoring 29 points for her team. #4 Alayna Pozorski was second in scoring with 13 points (5 FG, 1 3pt, 2 FT, 2 ast, 2 stl). #21 Nicole Zoellner and #23 Claire Drew put forth 12 points each in the game. (Zoellner 5FG, 2 FT; Drew 5 FG, 2 FT, 2 ast, 2 stl)
