The Merrill Bluejay girls basketball team beat Rhinelander in a home game on Wednesday, Dec. 30, finishing up with a win 62-55. Claire Drew helped lead her team to victory, scoring a total of 20 points (6 FG, 1 3pt, 7 FT, 1 ast). Crystal Dearth followed her, scoring 14 points (4 FG, 1 3pt, 5 FT, 2 stl), with Erin Murray hot on her heels scoring 13 total points (6 FG, 1 FT, 3 ast, 1 stl).
“We got off to another slow start, digging ourselves yet another hole, being down 10 at half,” Coach Adam Smith said. “We went into the locker room and made some adjustments. This time we knew we weren’t going to be able to rely on Courtney to put up the points she normally does, and some other people needed to step up. They answered the call, with Claire stepping up to lead us in scoring with 20, Crystal with 14 and Erin with 13. Although Alayna may not have put up the points, she contributed in a huge way with 7 offensive rebounds and 7 assists.”
