Pictured is Merrill's Nik Zastrow following his pin over Stevens Point's David Doyle, at Stevens Point Area Senior High on Saturday, Dec.19.

On Saturday, Dec. 19 the Bluejay wrestlers claimed a solid win (36-30) over the SPASH Panthers, on their home turf of Stevens Point Area Senior High School.
“We were led by two pins from Nik Zastrow and Brian Ball,” comments head coach Brian Suchocki.
After Jon Hart (126) and Tristan Brewington (132) received forfeits, Zastrow took down SPASH’s David Doyle by pin in the 145-pound class.
“It was good to see Nik get us started,” Suchoci adds.
“He works extremely hard in practice and is a great teammate. Brian Ball went back and forth with his opponent (Landon Maas) but as he settled in he came out on top getting a much needed pin in the third period. Malakai Wheeler and Wyatt Bathke also picked up forfeits. Ryder Depies and Caleb Stoekman each came up short in hard fought matches. I felt we had a chance in both matches. We will keep working hard in practice. It was good to get the win over SPASH and we are looking forward to wrestling Wisconsin Rapids.” As Coach Suchocki alluded to, the wrestlers return to the mat Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the MHS Field House, welcoming the Wisconsin Rapids Raiders.
