The brisk 29-degree temperature was perfect for an impromptu afternoon hockey practice at Normal Park in Merrill, on Sunday, Dec. 20.
Ryan Skoug, Merrill High School 9th grader and 14-year-old son of Phil and Cheryl Skoug of Merrill, joined his friend and Wausau WarJacks Bantams Hockey teammate, Brody Benedict on the ice. Benedict is an 8th grader at St. John’s Lutheran School in Merrill and the 13-year-old son of Morgan Brandt and John Benedict, both of Merrill.
“It’s a great day for hockey,” Skoug said.
Five-year-old James Dietzler, the son of Caity Graeber and Jason Dietzler, both of Merrill, is in his first year on the Mites team with the Merrill Bluejay Hockey Association. He said he wanted to tag along with the older boys to play, too. He practiced with a tennis ball while the older boys scored goals with a puc.
