Merrill Police Department Reports
At 10:02 a.m, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. A K9 was deployed on the vehicle and alerted to the presence of illegal items. Officers located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing and charges will be forthcoming.
At 3:46 p.m, officers responded to the office of Probation and Parole to take a male party into custody for a probation violation. He was transported to the jail.
At 4:22 p.m, an officer responded to a criminal damage to property complaint. The caller had their vehicle parked outside and an unknown person smashed the passenger and rear window. The investigation is ongoing.
At 6:12 p.m, an officer was dispatched to a disorderly conduct complaint. An intoxicated male juvenile had caused damage inside the apartment and in the hallway. Contact was made with the juvenile who admitted to causing the damage. He was cited for underage drinking and is being referred to Social Services for disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.
At 7:39 p.m an officer received a voice message from a male reporting earlier this morning he had received a scam attempt phone call. The caller had purported to be from the Social Security Administration and claimed there was suspicious activity on the account in south Texas. The caller then attempted to gather personal information. The reporting party knew this to be a scam attempt and did not provide any information but wished for the officer to alert others of this type of scam occurring in the area.
At 5:55 p.m, Merrill Officers assisted with a vehicle pursuit initiated by a Lincoln County Deputy. The vehicle fled from pursuing deputies and officers. The vehicle attempted to elude officers and deputies for several city blocks. The vehicle was stopped when a pursuing deputy disabled the fleeing vehicle by utilizing his own squad car. Merrill Officers assisted in taking the driver into custody who continued to resist officers. The male party was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
At 6:53 p.m, officers responded to a local park for a report of a stolen vehicle. The caller stated while walking back to their vehicle a male party jumped in the vehicle and drove off. The male party was pursued by the vehicle owner’s boyfriend. The suspect vehicle drove from the area down a dead end street and across yards to return back to the roadway. The boyfriend lost sight of the vehicle. Officers discovered an abandoned vehicle in the park were the vehicle was stolen that was traced back to the suspect. The stolen vehicle was located by deputies in Marathon County apparently abandoned. The suspect was located and arrested by Marathon County deputies after stealing another vehicle and trying to elude Marathon County deputies in the second stolen vehicle. All stolen vehicles were recovered and the male party was taken into custody and will be charged for the theft of both vehicles.
