MHS Senior Mason Vander Velde has been a force to be reckoned with on the Bluejay varsity football team’s defense this season. Tallying a total of 38 tackles in just five contests this season, Vander Velde notched a season-high 10 tackles (4 solo, 6 assists) versus Antigo on Friday, Oct. 23.
Aside from football, Mason enjoys spending time with family and friends and outdoors activities, including hunting and fishing.
Son of Amy Detert and Jason Vander Velde of Merrill, Mason currently maintains a flawless 4.0 GPA.
Following graduation in the spring, Mason plans to attend UW-Stevens Point’s Wausau campus to complete general education requirements, before moving on to either UW-LaCrosse or Oshkosh, as an accounting major.
