In late September, Maple Grove Charter School (MGCS) Principal Dr. Dawn Nonn was honored with a $500 grant from Aurora, IL based Aftermath Services’ ‘Pay It Forward’ Education Grant Program. Available to educators nationwide, Nonn and MGCS placed fourth of six grants awarded, including recipients from Texas, Nevada, North Carolina, Illinois, and Racine, WI.
As Nonn explains, being notified of the grant came as a complete surprise.
“I had no idea who or what Aftermath Services even is when a representative contacted me in mid-September,” she adds with a smile.
“I then learned the grant had been applied for in honor of my work, by the parent of a student I work with here at Maple Grove.
“It was both an honor and humbling experience. It’s such an honor to have my work recognized by students and parents for the work I do with students and every day operations.”
Grant funds will be used to add and replace indoor and outdoor recess equipment at Maple Grove, as well as expanding upon STEM activities for indoor recess.
Dr. Dawn Nonn is a 31-year veteran educator, the last five-years of which spent as a teaching principal at Maple Grove Charter School. Prior to coming to MGCS, Nonn taught in the Madison School District. Nonn holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from UW-Madison as well as a Master’s Degree in Special Education and PhD in Educational Leadership from Edgewood College
