Turenne named Athlete of the Week
MHS junior Bailey Turenne played an integral role in the Bluejay varsity team’s season opening 20-14 win over Ashland on Friday, Sept. 25. Near the midway point in the fourth quarter, the Oredockers had mounted a drive deep into Bluejay territory. On third down, Ashland opened a pass play and the quarterback targeted the receiver of which Turenne happened to be assigned to cover.
“I read the “out” route he was running, and when I turned to look back at the quarterback, there was the ball. I snagged it and took off running.”
Turenne picked off the pass on the Bluejay 5-yard line and returned the ball all the way back to the 50-yard line, a play of which would seal the win for the Jays.
A second-year varsity starter on the football team as a corner back, Turenne is also a two-year member of the Bluejay Boys varsity basketball team as a shooting guard and point guard.
In his free time, Bailey enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as outdoors activities such as golfing and four-wheeling.
Son of Lisa and Jim Turenne of Merrill, Bailey currently maintains a 3.0 GPA.
