Elaine M. Hinke, age 101, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill. Elaine was born January 24, 1919 in Ironwood, Michigan daughter of the late Louis and Amelia (Erm) Kutil. She married Elmer W. Hinke on February 22, 1938 in Ironwood. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2005. Elaine was a homemaker and had also worked at the former ‘Skipper’s Restaurant’ in Merrill. Elaine was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. She sang in the church choir and had also taught Christian education classes. Elaine served her community as a Girl Scout and Brownie leader. At home Elaine enjoyed cooking and baking healthy meals as well as canning.
Elaine is survived by a daughter, Carole Kobe of Pewaukee; three sons, Jim (Shirley) Hinke of Phillips, Dave Hinke of Merrill, and Dan Hinke of Grafton; a former daughter in law, Rebecca Lorge of Lakeside, California; six grandchildren, Jeff and Veronica Hinke, Carrie (Brandon) Quinn, Jeremy Hinke, Patrick (wife, Julia Amonette) Hinke, and Greg Hinke; and three great grandchildren, Carter, Aaron, and Micah. Besides her parents and husband, Elaine is preceded in death by a son and daughter in law, William and Jeanne Hinke, and a son in law, Jim Kobe.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. Father Maria will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED AND SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE PRACTICED AT BOTH THE FUNERAL HOME AND CHURCH. Online condolences may be made at www.taylorstinefuneralhome.com.
