Buddy Poppy campaign benefits needs of veterans
Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1638 and Auxiliary will be distributing Buddy Poppies in various locations throughout the city of Merrill. The main drive dates are September 5 12, 2020.
VFW Post 1638 Past All-American Post Commander Michele Rathke and Auxiliary Junior Vice President, Denni Radloff and Ways and Means Chairman, Janet Tesch, will be the Co-chairs for 2020. According to Chairman Rathke, the Buddy Poppy Drive is normally scheduled for a May time frame, but do to unprecedented times the Buddy Poppy Drive was put on hold, until September.
Along with, the traditional Buddy Poppy Drive, there will be a Food stand at Westside Market (1502 West Main Street, Merrill) , on September 3 and 4, 2020 from 10 a.m.- – 3 p.m., courtesy Mark Raymer, U.S. Marine Veteran and honorable VFW Post 1638 Member.
Proceeds from Buddy Poppy distributions must be used to benefit disabled and needy veterans and the family members and orphans of deceased veterans. “What better way to help our veterans in the community than by distributing this little flower of remembrance.” We encourage everyone in town to stop by the various locations, Westside Market, Dave’s County Market, Pine Ridge Mobil, First Street Coffee Station and Jokin’ Joe’s Bait and Tackle and get a Buddy Poppy in remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, some location maybe limited to a display board at the location, with information and Buddy Poppy to take and wear proudly.
Mayor Derek Woellner signed a City Of Merrill Proclamation, dedicating the week of September 5 -12, as the annual Buddy Poppy Campaign. We are looking forward to seeing everybody we possibly can and be proud when the donations are counted up and sent out to help the needy.
Please help the cause and thank you for your continued support.
Any member of the VFW Post 1638 or Auxiliary may call one of the Co-Chairs to sign up to assist at one of the locations to help distribute Buddy Poppies.
