MADISON – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) today released the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) preliminary employment estimates for the month of July 2020. The data shows that Wisconsin added 30,500 total non-farm and 25,500 private-sector jobs in the month of July. Wisconsin’s unemployment rate for July was 7.0 percent, down from June’s revised rate of 8.6 percent.
Place of Residence Data: Wisconsin’s labor force participation rate in July was 64.9, 3.5 percent higher than the national rate of 61.4 percent. Wisconsin’s unemployment rate in July was 7.0 percent, while the national unemployment rate in July was 10.2 percent.
Place of Work Data: Wisconsin added 25,500 private-sector and 30,500 total non-farm jobs from June 2020 to July 2020.
“We welcome the good news that Wisconsin continues to add jobs month over month, and our state unemployment rate declined to 7.0 percent – but Wisconsin is currently down over 216,000 private-sector jobs over the year, with the vast majority of those declines occurring in the service providing sector,” DWD Secretary Caleb Frostman said. “The way people work is changing across numerous industry sectors. DWD stands ready to help individuals transition into new employment or training programs that lead to family supporting careers.”
