A 45 year old Merrill man was arrested last Wednesday, July 15, evening after a short pursuit in the Town of Merrill. The man was charged with felony fleeing an officer and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. The suspect was also charged with a misdemeanor count of battery and a felony count of strangulation from an incident that occurred the day before at a home in the Town of Merrill.

Two people were injured after a two vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon, July 16, in the Town of Pine River. According to the deputy’s report, a vehicle being driven by a 31-year old Wausau man was traveling south on State Rd 17 when he collided with a vehicle driven by a 34-year old Merrill man. The Merrill man was waiting to turn west on to County Road G, and turned in front of the southbound vehicle. Both drivers refused medical transport, Pine River Fire and First Responders assisted at the scene.

Two people were arrested early Friday morning, July 17, after a deputy checking on a suspicious vehicle found two wanted people. A deputy spotted the vehicle parked by storage units in the town of Merrill at 5:44 AM. A check on a 30-year old Tomahawk woman found she was wanted by the Eau Claire County Sheriff on charges of identity theft, bail jumping and drug charges. The male subject, a 25-year old Wausau man was found to be wanted by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for violating the terms of his probation. The man was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after the K9 Nina alerted to the odor of illegal drugs in the vehicle, a search turned up a pipe which tested positive to the presence of methamphetamine.

The northbound lanes of USH 51 in the Town of Merrill was shut down on Friday evening for about an hour and half following a motor vehicle crash. One person was injured and another was cited for failure to yield right of way.

Vandalism is still occurring throughout Lincoln County with black swastikas being painted on road signs. More reports were received on Wednesday with signs being spray painted in the Town of Scott and the Town of Birch and another on Saturday of signs being spray painted on State Rd 107 in the Town of Merrill. A 30-year old Oconomowoc woman was arrested Saturday evening on a charge of disorderly conduct. Deputies took the woman into custody after responding to a disturbance in the Town of Birch at 6:00 PM.

Only two people reported striking deer this past week.
