MHS alum Anderson graduates Iowa State University, earns USN Officer commission

On Saturxday, May 9, Ian M. Anderson of Merrill, and 2015 graduate of Merrill High School, was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University. Later that same day, he was commissioned by Iowa State’s Cyclone Battalion Naval ROTC unit into the United States Navy with the rank of Ensign.
Ian will set aside his Civil Engineering degree for the moment as he will now concentrate on his Naval service. This service will take him first to San Diego, CA for the Navy’s BDOC (Basic Division Officer Course) and JOOD (Junior Officer of the Deck) schools before moving on to his first assignment aboard the amphibious transport vessel; USS New Orleans, currently home ported in Sasebo, Japan.
