Merrill Police Department reports
At 3:45 p.m., an officer responded to a gas skip complaint. A vehicle left a local gas station without paying for fuel. The investigation is ongoing.
At 6:38 p.m., officers responded to a reckless driving complaint. The caller stated there were vehicles drag racing at the MARC. Contact was made with the drivers of the vehicles who admitted to driving poorly. Both drivers were cited for disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle.
At 3:34 p.m., an officer responded to a damage to property complaint. The caller had a hole in their storage shed that appeared to be from an arrow. The investigation is ongoing.
At 2:10 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and the odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. The officers also observed a clear baggie with a green leafy substance inside which the driver admitted to being marijuana. The driver was placed through field sobriety tests and failed. He was arrested for operating under the influence.
At 12:49 p.m., an officer responded to a shoplifting complaint. The investigation is ongoing.
At 5:08 p.m., an officer was assisting a citizen with a vehicle lockout when they were within inches of nearly being struck by a vehicle. The suspect vehicle was located by another officer and the driver displayed signs of impairment. The driver was placed through field sobriety tests, failed, and was arrested for operating while intoxicated, 1st offense. The male driver was also cited for operating without a valid license and operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration.
At 9:23 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle pull out of a parking lot and rapidly accelerate causing the tires to squeal and the vehicle to “fish tail.” The officer conducted a traffic stop and the male driver was cited for disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle and operating while suspended.
