Fatality reported in Town of Pine River crash

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred early Wednesday morning, April 29, in the Town of Pine River.

According to a press release issued Wednesday morning, at 1:14 a.m. the Lincoln County E-911 Communications Center received a call of a vehicle that had left the roadway and rolled over near Shady Lane Avenue. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a passenger had been ejected. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Paul C. Proulx. A second passenger was transported to the Trauma Center at Wausau Aspirus Hospital. The driver was treated and released from a local medical facility, he is currently in custody.

The three occupants of the vehicle are all from Merrill and 16 years of age.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Town of Pine River Fire Department and First Responders, the Merrill Fire Department ambulance and the Wisconsin State Patrol who is reconstructing the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.

Names will be released Thursday morning, April 30.
