As most anyone can agree; the recent COVID-19 related restrictions have certainly left it’s mark on the Merrill community, and abroad. But for local youth, these uncertain times can seem especially dismal; especially when it comes to birthday celebrations.
That was the scenario Lexi Henry of Gleason was facing last week.
“We had a party with her and her friends planned, and then a mom-daughter weekend, just her and I,” explains Lexi’s mother, Michelle.
“But due to the whole coronavirus thing, we couldn’t make that happen.”
Thankfully, Lexi’s parents had a back-up plan in mind and that plan was implemented Saturday afternoon, April 25, in celebration of Lexi’s 11th birthday.
As Lexi was relaxing with her parents at the end of their driveway just south of Gleason; on came Engine 7 from the Town of Russell Volunteer Fire Department. Engine 7 was soon followed by a convoy of vehicles comprised of Lexi’s family and friends, as well as other members of the Town of Russell Fire Department and deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
“Mom! did you do this for me?” Lexi exclaimed, as the entourage of vehicles passed by Saturday afternoon.
“Yes honey, we did this for you!”
In total, 14 vehicles participated in Lexi Henry’s 11th birthday parade and celebration, on Saturday afternoon,
“She was just in pure shock,” Michelle said,
“She wasn’t expecting this. I’m so grateful for everyone who took the time to make this happen today,” Michelle adds with a smile.
“This meant so much to her.”
Lexi is the daughter of Bill Henry and Michelle Last, of Gleason.
