Garage Sales, Rummage Sales, or Any Other Out-of-Home Sales Are Not Essential Services

Spring is here and for many of us that means spring cleaning and rummage sales. However, this year per the Governor’s Safer at Home Order, garage sales, rummage sales, or any other out-of-home sales are not essential and are not allowable.
“Even if people were to distance themselves six feet apart from others, rummage sales are not considered essential,” says Shelley Hersil, Lincoln County Health Department Director and Health Officer. “It would not be possible to practice physical distancing and other recommendations needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while hosting a sale out of your home.”
Travel is another major concern, as most people visit multiple sales in a day, increasing the potential for significant spread of COVID-19,” Hersil adds. Sales that would occur via an online platform and mailed would be allowable.
Safer at Home is working; initial projections show that without Safer at Home, there would be
significantly more cases of COVID-19 and deaths associated with the disease. By staying home we are flattening the curve. Continue to stay at home except for essential travel, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer, sanitize surfaces frequently touched by others and stay home when you are sick.
