MAPS Closure Update: Schools to remain closed indefinitely, virtual learning to continue

Tuesday afternoon, March 31, Merrill Area Public Schools Superintendent Dr. John Sample issued the following press release; advising of updated information released by the office of Governor Tony Evers and Wisconsin Department of Instruction (DPI) Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor.

Dear MAPS Community:
The most recent information coming out of the Governor’s office states that schools will be closed indefinitely. Our State Superintendent of Public Instruction issued a statement today asking us to plan “As if students will not be returning for the rest of the school year.” I will keep you informed as we hear additional news. At this time, the most accurate information I can provide is that schools will be closed until further notice.
Virtual learning will continue while our buildings are closed. Our teachers and administrators are dedicated to meeting the needs of your children during this challenging time. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher to make their learning experience the best possible.
Please continue to check our MAPS website as we are updating information on a daily basis.
Meals will continue to be provided for pick up every Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m at Door 23 of Merrill High School. These meals are for all students at no cost.
I appreciate the patience and flexibility exhibited by everybody during this time. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions. Thank you and please be safe.
Sincerely,

John Sample
Superintendent of Schools
