Meals for Merrill helps residents in time of need
Originally known as Feed the Kids Fundraiser, Meals for Merrill kicked off their fundraising and relief efforts on March 16.
According to Meals for Merrill organizer Justin Novitski, Pastor of Downtown Mission Church, the original goal for this program was to make sure kids were being fed regular meals, while schools are shut down during the COVID-19 crisis.
“Meals for Merrill began as a fundraiser to provide blessing bags for families that are affected by the cancelling of school for an unforeseen amount of time,” said Novitski. “We know that many kids depend on school lunches for their daily needs. These blessing bags include food for meals and snacks as well as toiletries such as deodorant, toothpaste and shampoo. Our original goal was to bridge the gap between the time that school let out and when the school would be able to provide meals to the students.”
Since the schools have come up with a plan to feed their students, Meals for Merrill has expanded to include any individual or family.
“The project has expanded to any individual or family in need during this time,” continued Novitski. “No requirements to be met, no questions asked. We understand that many have chosen to self isolate at this time and we
are available to deliver these blessing bags to families on request.
Requests can be made through calling (715)539-6216 or messaging us through our Facebook page, Downtown Mission Church – Merrill. Bags will be dropped off on the doorstep in order to avoid physical contact.”
