Merrill Police Department Calls for Service
At 3:49 a.m. officers responded to a bar in the 100 block of Prospect St. for a report of a fight. Upon arrival it was learned that a patron had been in the bar and was sleeping on the bar and when asked to leave a verbal altercation occurred between the patron and the bar owner.
At 8:02 a.m., an Officer responded to a residence for a report of an item that was thrown thru the window of the residence. The investigation is ongoing.
At 3:42 p.m., Officers and a Deputy from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office went to a residence to attempt to locate a male subject that had an active warrant for his arrest. The male subject was found hiding in the basement of the residence. He was taken into custody for the warrants, as well as fresh charges stemming from an investigation being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office.
At 7:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Cottage Street and West Second Street. The vehicle had left the roadway and ended up in a snowbank on the boulevard. The operator displayed signs indicative of impairment and was placed through field sobriety tests. Based off of those tests, the operator was arrested for OWI 1st offense.
At 6:38 a.m. a caller reported someone had stolen some items from her backyard and porch sometime overnight. Investigation is ongoing.
At 6:45 a.m. a citizen came to the police department to report he had been the victim of a scam. The man explained he had received a phone call from a male who told him his blood and DNA were found in a vehicle in Texas and there was now a warrant for his arrest. He was instructed to send $8000 to satisfy the warrant or he would be arrested. The man went to several local stores and purchased eBay cards and Google Play cards for a total of $1100 sending the codes to the scammer. The scammer then demanded more money or again threatened the man with arrest. At this point the man was able to determine this was a scam.
At 7:04 a.m., a caller reported a male smashed a window on her vehicle. She was able to provide a registration plate of the vehicle the man departed in. Investigation is ongoing.
At 2:11 a.m. a caller reported hearing a crash outside of her residence and observed a vehicle had left the roadway and was stuck on top of a snow bank. Upon arrival the officer observed characteristics indicative of intoxication from the driver. The driver agreed to perform field sobriety tests and as a result of those tests was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. A wrecker removed the vehicle from the snow bank.
At 3:02 a.m. a tavern owner reported a male was at his business and had struck him and broken a window. Upon officer’s arrival the suspect fled on foot. The man was located behind the business and refused to follow officer’s commands and continued to attempt to elude capture. The officer used an electronic control device to gain control of and arrest the suspect. The man was arrested for criminal damage to property, resisting an officer, disorderly conduct and probation violation. It was reported the man arrived at the tavern and when refused entry became upset punching the owner and breaking the window.
At 8:42 p.m., officers responded to a report of person’s using illegal drugs at a residence. Upon arrival, methamphetamine was located as well as drug paraphernalia. A male was arrested on a probation warrant as well as for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. A female at the residence was arrested for a probation violation.
At 7:53 am, Officers were dispatched to a nursing facility for a report of a resident that was becoming physically assaultive with staff. Officers responded and found that the 60-year old male subject caused a disturbance at the facility and during the course of it had punched an employee in the stomach and also ran over that employee’s foot with his wheelchair. There was prior history of similar aggressive behavior. The male subject will be charged with battery to a nurse and disorderly conduct.
