The American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life of Merrill invites the community to help kickoff the 22nd season on March 12 at The Eagle’s Club in Merrill.
We’re launching this year’s Relay season starting with a delicious meal of hot beef or hot turkey, chips and a delicious dessert. Come and spend some time with friends and pick up information about the Relay For Life 2020 and amazing Celebration Fireworks presentation. Entertainment for the kickoff will be provided by Merrill Vocal Jays. You will also be able to register at the kickoff or by going to the event’s website at www.relayforlife.org/merrillwi.
The Relay For Life movement continues to be the largest peer-to-peer fundraising event with 2.5 million participants globally uniting to save lives from cancer.
Kathy Liberty, the event lead for the Relay For Life of Merrill is excited about what 2020 has in store for the event! “Thanks to the amazing group of volunteers, we will have something to do for all ages, from the youngest to the eldest. We are really looking forward to this year. People in the community should also plan to attend the Celebration Fireworks following the Luminaria Ceremony. It is a very beautiful and big show and has become a feature of the Relay the past couple of years. Food, fun and friends are what Relay is about, we hope to see our community come out to support our event and our fundraising for the American Cancer Society’s mission of work.”
This year’s Relay For Life event will be held at the Merrill Festival Grounds on August 7-8 at 5 pm for check in and day of registrations and wraps up the following morning after the pancake breakfast and announcement of the drawing winners. The Relay For Life of Merrill is an opportunity to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. The event empowers communities to take a stand against cancer. Since 1985, Relay For Life events have raised nearly $6.5 billion for the American Cancer Society.
ACS estimates that 1 out of 3 people in the US will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Funds raised at Relay For Life events help the ACS fund and conduct breakthrough research. It gives cancer patients and their families the resources they need, like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline for answers and support.
