One dead, two injured in US 51 crash

A motor vehicle crash on US 51 last Tuesday, Feb. 18 has claimed the life of a Tomahawk man and injured two others.
According to a press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol’s Northcentral Region’s Wausau Post, on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at approximately 11:51 a.m. the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to a report of a two vehicle crash on US 51 near CTH J in Lincoln County. When a trooper arrived on scene it was determined that a Highway Maintenance Truck was conducting snow removal near the shoulder of US 51 when it was rear-ended by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Silverado, a 26 year old male from Tomahawk, WI was transported to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger in that vehicle, a 67 year old male from Tomahawk, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Highway Maintenance Truck, a 48 year old male from Gleason, WI, sustained minor injuries. The Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit responded to reconstruct the crash. The State Patrol was assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriffs Department. The investigation remains on going.
The driver of the vehicle was later identified as 67-year old Thomas Thompson and passenger was identified as Keaton Thompson, both of Tomahawk.
