Merrill Police Department reports

February 17
At 10:42 a.m., a business reported observing a male on surveillance video removing scrap metal from a dumpster without permission. The business did not wish enforcement action be taken against the man, but simply wanted him warned to stay off their property. The man was contacted and was warned to stay off the property.

February 18
At 9:43 a.m., an officer responded to a forgery complaint. The caller had numerous checks that had been forged. The investigation is ongoing.

At 10:06 a.m., an officer responded to an address to assist Probation and Parole. While at the residence, the Probation and Parole agent wanted the female who resided there arrested for a probation violation. The female was taken into custody and was transported to the Lincoln County jail.

February 19
At 7:44 p.m., an officer responded to an address for a female party who was locked out of her residence. The officer investigated the incident and determined the female party was locked out of the residence by her ex-boyfriend related to an argument that had occurred between them. The officer investigated the circumstances of the argument and determined that the male party during the course of an argument had committed a battery to the female party. The male party was later located and arrested for domestic battery related to the incident.

At 6:42 p.m., officers responded to an address for a couple that was having an argument. During the course of the argument the male party had thrown soup in the face of the female party. Officers investigated the incident and determined that no parties were injured during the course of the argument. The parties agreed to separate for the evening and avoid escalating arguments to this level in the future.

February 20
At 3:08 a.m., officers responded to a residence for a report of a structure fire. Officers arrived on scene and determined that all occupants of the residence were evacuated. Officers set up a perimeter around the residence preventing traffic or bystanders from obstructing the fire department in their efforts to combat the fire. Officers maintained traffic control and safety of the scene until the fire department personnel was completed on scene.

February 21
At 11:58 a.m., a caller reported she had broken up with her boyfriend. The boyfriend then reportedly took a lockbox belonging to the caller and left the residence with it. Investigation is ongoing.

At 5:41 p.m., a caller reported an attempted fraud. It was reported that the caller had received information that a particular company would pay for her to advertise their product on her vehicle via stickers and wrap. The company mailed a check, requesting the check be cashed and a large portion of the check be returned to them. It was found the check was fraudulent. The caller suspected this to be a scam she did not send any portion to the “company” and is therefore not out any money.

February 22
At 2:39 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and the driver was attempting to conceal an open bottle of beer in the backseat and she began spilling it on the floor. The driver also displayed signs of intoxication and was placed through field sobriety tests. The driver failed the tests and was placed under arrest for Operating While Intoxicated, 1 st offense.

At 9:09 a.m., an officer responded to a theft complaint. The caller advised they had their debit card stolen out of the vehicle and there were now fraudulent charges being made on the card. The investigation is ongoing.

February 23
At 4:49 p.m., officers responded to a gas skip complaint. In viewing the video, the female driver attempted to use a card at the pumps and the pumps have not been working correctly according to the gas station employee. Contact was made with the vehicle owner who returned to pay for the fuel.
