T.B. Scott Library to present: Making Ends Meet, How Should We Spread Prosperity and Improve Opportunity?

Are you or someone you know living from paycheck to paycheck? How can that be? The stock market is at an all time high and millions of jobs have been created. Americans have a basic belief that if you work hard you should be able to support your family and get ahead. However, that’s not always what the average American is experiencing. This issue raises a number of difficult questions, and there are no easy answers.
Join library staff on Thursday, Feb. 13, in a community forum at the T. B. Scott Free Library as they explore why this is happening and what we can do to make sure our community members can achieve economic security in northern Wisconsin and Lincoln County. National Issues Forums (NIF) is a nonpartisan, nationwide network of locally sponsored public forums for the consideration of public policy issues. It is rooted in the simple notion that people need to come together to reason and talk—to deliberate about common problems.
This forum will consider three options for improving opportunity and spreading prosperity to all of our community members.
• Create New Work Opportunities
• Strengthen the Safety Net
• Reduce Inequality
All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The only requirement is a willingness to share your views and listen to those of your neighbors in our community. This event is an opportunity to positively change Merrill through information and discussion, and by creating an open and transparent environment for change.
