Healthy Minds for Lincoln County offers Programs in the New Year

Make 2020 a year to focus on you and your emotional wellness. Healthy Minds for Lincoln County, in collaboration with community partners, are offering programs and events aimed at increasing knowledge about social emotional well-being, substance use and recovery and support. All programs are provided at no cost.
•Mindfulness-Enhanced Strengthening Families Program – Thursday evenings, January 9 – February 20, 5-8 pm, Lincoln County Service Center. This 7 week evidence based program for parents and their youth ages 10-14 is proven to increase positive family relationships and lower rates of alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use in youth. •Youth Mental Health First Aid – January 28, 8 am-4:30 pm, Lincoln County Service Center, Merrill (snow date is February 5). This 8 hour evidence based course teaches adults how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth (ages 12-18). Lunch is provided. •Survivors of Suicide (SOS) Loss Support Group – starts January 28, 6-7 pm, T.B. Scott Free Library, Merrill. The support group meets the last Tuesday of every month. Community members who have lost a friend, family member, loved one or someone close to suicide are welcome to attend. No registration is needed. •“Written Off” Public Screening Event – February 3, 5:45–8 pm at T.B. Scott Free Library, Merrill. “Written Off” humanizes addiction by chronicling the life of a young man from northern Wisconsin, whose addiction to opioids began at age 15, after being prescribed pain medicine for a minor surgery. His journal writing reveals the secrets he tried so hard to conceal throughout a decade long struggle to escape addiction. Mental health and medical professionals will be available for Q & A after the film. A light meal is provided. No registration needed. Questions, contact Laurie at 715-536-7191. •Drug Impairment Training for Education Professionals (DITEP) – February 24 and 25, 8:30 am- 3:30 pm, Lincoln County Service Center. Training is designed for education professionals to gain the Live Well Lincoln’s mission is to promote partnerships within the community to improve health through advocacy, prevention and implementation of best practices. If you are interested in participating, please contact Shelley Hersil, Lincoln County Health Department, 715-539-1360 or [email protected] skills needed to identify chemically impaired individuals and different types of drugs. Participants must attend both days. Training, manuals, certificates of attendance and food are provided at no cost. Register at http://bit.ly/DITEPRegistration.
